New Society Publishers

Book Publishing

New Society Publishers is an activist, solutions-oriented publisher focused on publishing books for a world of change. Their books offer tips, tools, and insights from leading experts in sustainable building, homesteading, climate change, environment, conscientious commerce, renewable energy, and more — positive solutions for troubled times.

They are committed to the highest environmental practices in the industry. They print all of our books and catalogues on 100% post-consumer recycled paper (100% old growth forest-free), processed chlorine-free, and printed with vegetable-based, low-VOC inks. New Society Publishers is committed to printing all of their books and catalogues in Canada.

In 2005, New Society took its commitment to the environment up another notch by becoming the first North American publishing company to become carbon neutral. Their first step is to reduce their direct emissions by curtailing their shipping and travel as much as possible. Then, each year they neutralize all of the emissions which they cannot avoid by investing in initiatives that will prevent the release of a similar quantity of emissions elsewhere, or which will achieve long-term carbon-storage.They purchase their carbon credits locally from the Community Carbon Marketplace - a virtual “Farmer’s Market” of the carbon market - where buyers and sellers of community carbon credits can connect and lower their carbon footprints by investing in local green initiatives.
